Bhoisar Farm House

This 5 acre farm house, built on the banks of a river is located in lush green areas with ancient trees. Present in a thriving ecosystem of birds, insects and animals, Ravi Shankar Architects was given the task of preserving the integrity of the sacred space and utilizing the natural surroundings without causing harm to the environment.

The final architectural design of the farmhouse was kept simple. Keeping it unobtrusive yet elegant, space planning and comfort were not compromised upon. We paid a great deal of importance to the use of materials. They were sourced from local suppliers and the eventual materials chosen were those which were most suitable to the weather conditions in the area.

A good example of using available material and labour is the cantilevered machan that sits at the edge of the river. The machan is constructed using fallen bamboos from the surrounding land. They have been painstakingly woven together to create a basket weave design which is often used by the locals in the area. The entire home has a wonderful inside-outside feel to it, while providing all the necessary comforts of modern living.
